open-weight
an AI model whose files anyone can download and run
An open-weight model is one whose trained files are published, so a business can run it on its own computers or pick any company to host it. A closed model is only available through its maker's service. Open-weight models give more control over cost and data, but the business takes on running them.
Think of it as
Buying a recipe to cook at home, instead of only eating at the restaurant.
