Producing an entire answer in one step, not word by word.
Most familiar AI chat tools are autoregressive: they generate a reply one word at a time, each word guessed from the words already written. A non-autoregressive model instead produces its whole output in a single step, with no word-by-word guessing in between.

Like filling in a multiple-choice answer sheet in one glance, instead of writing out a full essay sentence by sentence.
Example
To tag a support ticket with its team and its urgency, a non-autoregressive model returns both labels at once. A chatbot would write a sentence such as "This looks like an urgent billing issue" that code then has to read back.
