spoofing

feeding a sensor fake signals so it reports something false

In a spoofing attack, the attacker sends signals a sensor cannot tell apart from real ones. The sensor then reports objects that are not there, or loses ones that are. Against LiDAR, this is done with a laser aimed at the sensor. No access to the vehicle's systems is needed.
